For
astronomers and lovers of the 'space, sky and stars,' the month of
April is special because of a "must see" spectacle – the Lyrids Meteor
Shower. This cosmic phenomenon can be seen best on the night of April
22 to April 23.
The Lyrids Meteor Shower has been observed for
more than 2,600 years and is dubbed by experts as "stars falling like
rain." The shower's peak will be in progress on the night of April 22
up to the early morning of April 23. The observation of the meteors is
most favorable after midnight when the constellation Lyra, the showers'
radiant, is already more than 30 degrees above the northeastern horizon.
The
best opportunity to see the Lyrids is to go on a location with the
lowest pollution because pollution can interfere with the visibility of
the meteor shower. City lights can limit the visibility of the falling
meteoroids, that's why it is recommended to that the best place to see
the meteor shower is on a mountaintop or a location of high altitude.
Seven
Suites Hotel Observatory, the only hotel-cum-observatory in the
country, is the perfect venue to see this much-awaited celestial event.
Aside from being situated at the quaint and lush foothills of Antipolo,
Seven Suites' state-of-the-art telescope intensifies the viewing
experience. An in-house astronomer will give guests a lecture and
interesting trivia about the Lyrids.
Seven Suites is all
geared up for the Lyrids Meteor Shower that will be seen on the dark
sky on April 22 to 23. In fact, the hotel is hosting an “Astro Camp”
promo. For every room check-in by an adult, his/her child will be free
of charge in the Astro Camp, a one-of-a-kind summer activity for kids
aged 7-13 and their families. Original charge for Astro Camp is Php 1,000 net per child.
The Astro Camp on the night of the Lyrids will be facilitated by in-house astronomer Ramon
Acevedo with the assistance of the UP Astronomical Society. Kids will
enjoy film showings, interesting lectures and fun activities, capped
with watching the spectacular Lyrids Meteor Shower at night. The

breakfast, lunch, dinner kiddie meals, free flowing hot chocolate and
