In nearby Antipolo, Seven Suites Hotel Observatory has consistently attracted families that go for good food, and quiet ambience. It has also attracted kids curious about the planets who want to take a peek at a telescope.
Aside from that, the hotel also has a following among barkadas out to have a great time under the stars. For the last weeks of October, Seven Suites has prepared a line-up of activities for families and barkadas.
Held in cooperation with Grilla Bar and Ingga Garden Lounge & Restaurant, Seven Suites celebrates Oktoberfest with a street party called 'Tara na, party na, sa Antipolo' tomorrow (Oct. 23) at 7 p.m. There will be games, celebrities and bands playing retro and acoustic music and of course, flowing beer until the morning. This event is sponsored by San Miguel Beer. The hotel also offers 20 percent discount on all a la carte menu and free flowing coffee or ice tea for main entre orders.
Being the only hotel cum observatory in the country, it is the perfect venue to witness the Orionids Meteor Shower which will be seen in the skies until Oct. 29. Guests can peek through the telescope (a Celestron 8-inch SchmidtCassegrain reflector) which is powerful enough to see the rings of Saturn, the moons of Jupiter or, if gazing at the city, the clock tower of the Manila City Hall. An in-house astronomer will do a minilecture about the constellations, share some fascinating trivia and answer questions.
The Orionids shower comes from Halley's Comet and the constellation where it seem to originate is Orion. Having a speed velocity of 66 kilometers per second, most meteors produce long trails.
